What are anti-anxiety meds? Has your doctor prescribed one of these meds? These meds are often given to a patient with anxiety and panic disorders and belong to the benzodiazepine drug class. These meds rapidly slow down the brain’s activity and giving a relaxing effect. The most common, Nitrosun, is also known as Nitrazepam; the normal Nitrosun dosage can be between 0.5 and can go to 10 mg depending on the patient, duration of time on the meds, and their anxiety level.

Nitrosun is in the same class of drugs as clonazepam but Clonazepam has a shorter half-life, which means that their dosage must be higher than Nitrosun to produce the same effects. Clonazepam has a half-life of 6 to 12 hours while Nitrosun has a half-life of 10 to 20 hours. The ‘half-life’ of meds means that in a particle number of hours half of the meds has expired from the body.

It has been investigated that longer-acting benzodiazepines are less likely to produce abuse than shorter-acting anti-anxiety meds. however, Nitrosun can be more effective for many patients that suffer from anxiety since the dosage doesn’t need to be repeated as often as Clonazepam and thus, those liable  to ‘benzo abuse’ or taking more than recommended  is lessened.

Nitrazepam is only one of the special meds used to treat anxiety, but because every patient’s anxiety level is different, it results to treat anxiety from other meds in the same ‘class’ or family. This is the case for many meds – for instance, there are many different kinds of anti-depressants, but one may work better for one patient than it does for another.

Many people taking Nitrosun are concerned with long-term dependency, however, this should not be a concern as long the person is under a doctor’s observation and only taking the prescribed meds. Dependency and addiction are entirely different, and therefore as long as the meds is taken as doctor advice, abuse is not possible even if the body does become ‘dependent’ for a short period. In a case of dependence, the patient is advised to lessen the amount over some time to limit side effect symptoms.

While Nitrazepam works very well to reduce anxiety, it is sometimes be used as an off-label med to help peaceful sleep. When a doctor does recommend these meds it is normally on a trial and error basis since it may be too sedating for some people that take it, which makes daily tasks difficult. Lastly, all of the benzodiazepines are typically taken on a short-term or as a patient requirement, since long-term use may lessen the effectiveness due to patience.
