In recent years, EDM is moving fast to being on the vanguard of mainstream music consumption, and it’s rightly so. If you have been conversant with festivals, parties, and even radio shows, you will notice that DJs and producers are paying more attention to the dance music genre. The EDM movement produced artists of the likes of Skrillex, Deadmau5, and David Guetta. They did well in their local communities, but they were also able to excel internationally.

However, the success achieved earlier in the century, EDM is taking more of the spotlight, and it’s only right to be curious about the rise of the young genre that started in the late 1970s. EDM is coming of age, and it’s doing it in a grand style. In recent years, DJs have been noticed to earn big from the genre, as high as $250,000 per show. How far has EDM come?

  • Festivities and Shows

When it comes to EDM, live shows are the best place for the music to be played. It has always been a genre of music that works well with the crowd at parties and festivals. Over the years, there has been an increasing demand for DJs well-versed in the genre, and the several EDM festivals worldwide have also been helpful. Some of these festivals are the Electric Daisy Carnival, Tomorrowland, Ostend Beach Festival, etc. In some of these festivals, visitors are willing to pay as high as $215 per ticket. That’s how important EDM has become in the way people have fun. Like Coachella Valley, Music Festival has played a massive role in the further adoption of the genre.

  • EDM in Pop Music

The influence of EDM has been seen in the Pop music genre over the past couple of years, with several artists employing electro beats to augment their songs. A leading producer in infusing pop with EDM is David Guetta, and his work has seen him collaborate with the likes of Nicki Minaj, Akon, Fergie, etc. to bring out music based on this combination. There are also some samplings of the Diplo Project and Major Lazer’s “Pon De Floor’ in Beyoncé’s Run the World (Girls) from 2011.

In an article by Forbes, the fusion of EDM to Pop has made it gain more listeners and audiences across the world, fueling its popularity beyond its original fan base.

  • Social Media

Another critical factor that has changed the way EDM music has been accepted across the world is social media. The internet has fostered a whole new world of doing things and getting content out to the audience interested in it. The online space, aided by the advent of cutting-edge technology, has revolutionized how DJs reach their audience.

The creation of communities online and reduced cost of touring has strengthened the fan base and made revenue generation easier for both audience and the DJs.

  • EDM’s Business

Over the years, the genre has gained much attention, and it has resulted in several business-oriented entities that shape its production and delivery. This has given it much more value, as different companies aim to provide one form of a solution or the other.

EDM as a genre has come a long way, and with the increasing reach of audience, the genre has inevitably come to stay.
