2010 is a year that has always been surrounded by exaggerations and yes, hope, even before 2009 was the hardest year we have seen in three generations. When we were kids, science fiction authors made us think we’d already be skiing on the moon, and while those bizarre ski-covered hills in Japan are pretty close, we’re still not there yet. But that does not mean อเมริกาเหนือน่าเที่ยว has not been much publicity around this historic year and the first ski season of this more futuristic decade. We decided to check out some of the most publicized events, venues, and teams of 2010 …

Most publicized event: the Vancouver Olympics

The Winter Olympics returns to the slopes of North America this year, with events scheduled for two weeks in February, both around Vancouver and in Whistler / Blackcomb. British Columbia will showcase its best and newest terrain and facilities, with Whistler hosting alpine skiing events, and sledging, luge and skeleton running at the resort’s new sliding center at Blackcomb Mountain. Back in the far west of the province, the small Cypress Bowl will host freestyle ski and snowboard competitions. Recently, excessively hot temperatures in Cypress forced the area to close and bake snow for games, but organizers of the Olympics promise that everything will be ready before the opening ceremonies on February 12.

As for the competition itself, a grudge match is brewing in North America, with Canadian and American ski teams poised to own the podium and medal count in Vancouver. Bill Marolt, president of the United States Ski and Snowboard Association, told reporters that the goal for the group of skiers and residents south of the border is nothing less than “best in the world” status, which it means more medals than any other country. Alpine sprinter Lindsey Vonn, as well as young boarding legends like Shaun White will be part of the cast of American stars who hope to neutralize the Canadian team’s home advantage.
