While you were sitting around the hookah with some of your good friends and a glass of wine, it hit you. “Why don’t I sell hookahs?” It has happened to many hookah smokers and some even act on the idea. It’s good?

The answer is a resounding yes! Hookahs are a growing market. In just one year, the number of search queries for the term “hookah” has tripled. That can only mean one thing, the market is growing.

The next step in your quest to run a shisha zubehör business is finding out what type of hookah business you will have. Maybe you should open a coffee shop, a mall store, or an online store. Maybe even an eBay store. I guess you’re now stuck with the task of buying a hookah from a solid wholesaler.

Buying hookah in bulk can be a big hurdle if you don’t work with the right partner. A search for hookah wholesalers can take you to websites advertising “wholesale to the public,” which is little more than retail hookahs at a less than remarkable price. If you have decided to manage an online store, drop shipping will be of interest to you.

If you ask a wholesaler to leave the ship, you may be met with little enthusiasm on your part. This is understandable since wholesalers tend to make money buying and selling in bulk. Other hookah wholesalers see it a little differently. By assisting you with shipping at the start of your business, some wholesale hookah dealers will hope to keep your account when it gets big. Don’t be surprised if a company wants to charge three to five dollars per item to ship. While you probably shouldn’t be paying more than that, it’s worth a maximum of eight bucks.

Hookah wholesalers may include additional benefits to additional charges for drop shipping. These benefits may include brand literature, manuals, or even your business card if you provide them. However, the unfortunate truth is that most wholesalers will not be interested in paying attention to such details.

Drop shipping hookah wholesalers are few and far between, but rest assured they exist. When working with one, make sure you have a private label guarantee. This is very important. Basically, a private label guarantee means that your hookah wholesaler will not include literature or contact information (either inside or outside the package) that can take your customers to their source. The exception is a package origin address, since most package carriers require the physical address to be displayed.

Not having a private label guarantee will only lead to inevitable awkward conversations with your customers, as they wonder why the website in the box is not the website they ordered from.

Other than that, when selling online you should remember that you are still “selling”. That means taxes. Make sure you are online with your local revenue department and business regulations department. Most states will require you to maintain a tobacco retail permit to sell online. This can generally be purchased by paying a license fee of less than two hundred dollars. Some states may not require a tobacco permit if you only sell hookahs and a clean criminal history is always helpful. You will need to check your local laws as they may change periodically and all state regulations are different.

Selling hookahs at retail can be a lot of fun and very rewarding as you can talk about hookahs with other hookah smokers around the world in your daily business. Having a solid hookah wholesaler will ensure that your customers stay happy and with your company.
