Phuket is the largest Thailand Island and considered as one of the most interesting ones. This super fun island has it all: magnificent beaches, world-class shopping venues, and plenty of entertainment options. It is a bit overwhelming which attractions to visit first, especially if you are there for a limited time and need to prioritize. To make things easier for you, we’ve made a list of the top five must-see attractions in Phuket.

#1 The Big Buddha

This 45 meters tall Buddha is one of the most important landmarks on the island of Phuket. The marble made Buddha can be seen from many places on the island as it is situated on the top of the Nakkerd Hills. There is no entrance fee, as all visits are free. All you have to do is find some transportation to the top of the hill, taxi or a bus. Best time to visit the Big Buddha is early in the morning or late in the afternoon, that way you can avoid the crowds and the sun.

#2 Old Town Phuket

The Old Town offers an authentic experience as it is full of vintage, colonial style townhouses, mansions, eateries, stores, and coffee shops. It’s perfect for those that want a change of pace from the livelier district to something calmer and authentic.

#3 Bangla Road

This is a pedestrianized street where you can find a ton of pubs, clubs, bars, and eateries. Inside the bars and clubs, you can find girls dancing around poles, cheap beer, and great local food. Bangla Road is one of those places that you love or hate; there is nothing in between. One thing is for sure; one cannot have a dull night there.

#4 Phuket Elephant Sanctuary

The elephant is Thailand’s national animal. The Phuket Elephant Sanctuary is a rehabilitation center for rescued elephants that have been abused in the past and forced to perform. The visitors in the Phuket Elephant Sanctuary can hang near the elephants, learn about them, and even feed them. It’s a fantastic experience and a must-see attraction.

#5 Surin Beach

This is one of the most amazing beaches on the island and one that is very popular with wealthy locals and foreign visitors. The long stretches of white sandy beaches and the crystal clear waters are breath-taking. There are also plenty of restaurants, beach bars, and luxury resorts. This peaceful and picturesque beach is the perfect alternative to the many other noisy and over-crowded beaches.

Airport Transport

The airport is the starting point for most of the tourists in Phuket. There are plenty of Phuket airport transfers options, buses, taxi, rent a car and services like welcome pickups. Taking a bus or a minibus is the cheapest mean of transport, but it is available only during day time and every 90 minutes. On the other hand, renting a car is the most expensive option. The taxis at the airport can cost you from 700 THB and upwards, plus many of the drivers don’t speak English, and their cars are not as clean as expected. Then there is the welcome pickups service that offers a flat fee, English speaking driver, clean car, and online booking.
