Heard of low libido problem? Low libido = reduced sex drive. It is not just the reduced testosterone production that kills your sex drive but there are several other factors that makes you less interested in sex. Most of these apply for both women and men.  Come on, let’s take a look:

  1. Stress

Most common problem that is faced by today’s youth. May it be a ton of work at office or a strained relationship with his/her partner, stress can kill your sex drive to almost 0. The first thing that needs to be done is to zero-in on what is causing the stress and how you can get over it. Proper planning at work or spending time with your partner and other loved ones or even a worry free vacation can be your stress busters.  You also have an option to meet a sex therapist or a counselor who can help you overcome your stress and have a better life.

  1. Problems with your partner (Emotional Issue)

No couple exists who doesn’t have problems in their relationship. Some are wise enough to nip them in the bud but in some relationships, very small issues grow to an extent of separation. You need to have an emotional connect with your partner for a happy and healthy sex life. Apologizing and being grateful can take your relationship to greater heights of intimacy and long lasting relationship.

  1. Alcohol

Having alcohol occasionally is ok but drinking heavily not only takes a toll on your liver but also affects your complete body. Check if your partner is ok with you being drunk before getting into the act. Some may love it and some may not. If you can’t stop drinking or drink less, you must see a therapist or counselor.

  1. Less Sleep

Are you having a good night sleep for 7 to 8 hours? If you have problems falling asleep or if you have problems remaining asleep or if you have sleep apnea (involuntary stopping of breath during sleep), this affects your professional as well as your personal life. Fatigue can take a toll on your interest in sex.

  1. Kids

A family without kids is not complete. If you have new born, it is common to lose sleep during nights. When taking care of toddlers, you end up getting tired and these may cause you to lose interest in sex.  If possible hire a nanny when grandparents are unavailable to help you in taking care of the kids. This gives you time for yourself and to spend time with your partner.

  1. Medication

Anti depressants, blood pressure medications, birth control pills, chemotherapy, anti-hiv drugs etc have side effects that can lower your sex drive. Though SSRIs used for depression problem have side effect like delaying ejaculation, some may cause erectile dysfunction.  Talk to your sexologist immediately if any medication is interfering with your sex life.

  1. Out of proportion body figure or Obesity

Obesity is one of the very common problems today. Drastically changed lifestyles, wrong food habits, consuming higher quantity of foods containing sugars, carbs and saturated fats make your body grow out of proportion in the wrong places.  This disfiguration can destroy your confidence in attracting or getting attracted to your partner or to the opposite sex.  Regular exercise, watching what you eat, drinking plenty of water can help you stay healthy and be more active in sex.

  1. Erection Problems

As age advances, men start having erection problems. Stress and medication added to age is a super bad combination which hinders your active sex life. Visit a good sexologist or andrologist for your erection problems and avoid ending up in a troubled personal life.

  1. Low Testosterone

As age advances, men experience a drop in testosterone levels. After 40, this drop should be minimal but should not lead to total lack of interest in sex life.  If this is happening to you, you must consult a good sexologist near you without delay or hesitation.

  1. Depression, menopause and lack of emotional intimacy / closeness with your partner can also lead to lack of interest in sex drive.
