The problem with having carpets in your home or office is that they always get dirty. Sooner or later you have to get them cleaned professionally or your home looks—and smells—like a train station, or worse, and they are seldom the same after a few cleans. Mohawk Carpets’ new SmartStrand range puts paid to that problem, with carpeting that uses smart fibers to deliver protection against spills and a permanent resistance to stains. With a carpet installation cost factor in the same range as regular carpets, why wouldn’t you choose something that will last better?

How Smart Fibers Work

The best way to stop carpeting from becoming dirty is to prevent spills and grime from settling into it in the first place. SmartStrand carpet fibers use a technology called Nanoloc™, which encloses the fiber completely to make an impenetrable barrier against dirt. The super-fine nanoparticles are bonded together at the cellular level, and this prevents spills from reaching the core of the fibers.

This means the protective element is built right into the fibers and can’t ever wash or wear off, compared with regular carpet fibers that have open “dye sites” where dirt and discoloration get into the core along with the color and dries to create a stain.

Better Cleaning Options

The result of this built-in stain prevention is that the carpets not only retain and show less dirt, but that they can also be cleaned more effectively and for a longer period. Studies show nylon carpet loses an average of 50% of its dirt and stain protection after steam cleaning three times.

With SmartStrand, you retain 100% of the soil and stain protection through cleaning after cleaning. It also performs better during day-to-day cleaning, releasing dirt up to three times faster during regular vacuuming simply because it’s unable to stick.

Benefits of SmartStrand

Apart from the obvious advantages of a carpet that never holds onto stains and never becomes discolored, the SmartStrand range has several additional benefits.

The 100% non-absorption feature means it also doesn’t retain liquid or moisture, so there’s no risk of the carpet becoming damp or musty-smelling. This makes it a great carpet for homes with young children and pets, because whether it’s mud tracked in during adventures or the odd slip-up with the new puppy, your flooring is safe from disaster.

And with all these great attributes, you’d expect it to be tough and wiry, wouldn’t you? Nothing could be further from the truth, and SmartStrand comes in Regular, Silk and Silk Reserve options.

Environmental Advantages

Everyone is aware of environmental issues these days, and the Mohawk SmartStrand carpeting is no exception. It’s manufactured with annually renewable, plant-based products that reduce the consumption of natural resources. It’s also certified free from harmful substances, to you can enjoy the beauty, luxurious softness and invincibility with a clear conscience about the state of the planet.
