Introduction

When you are working on your reputation online, you will likely have to make the decision between VPNs and Proxies for your SEO. Wow, that was a lot of acronyms in one sentence. Anyhow, you are going to want to make sure that you are using the right things to make your SEO go off without any problems. Let’s take a look at some of the differences so that you can make the best decision for your purposes.

Proxies

There are really only two proxies that you are going to be dealing with HTTP and SOCKS5. Both have their benefits, and both have their drawbacks. If you have been online for more than a minute, you will immediately recognize the HTTP (sometime HTTPS denoting secure). This is the main proxy that is utilized by most of the world. Essentially, it houses all of the websites that we know of. On the other hand, there is SOCKS5. This is the proxy that deals with such things as emails, file management, and torrent files. With the exception of email, these are generally used by larger companies to transfer information in a much more secure and efficient way. There are a number of free public FTP and torrent websites, but if you are looking to be more secure, you are going to go with your own private versions.

VPNs

VPNs are virtual private networks. That is, they are networks that you create without the complicated equipment. They are highly encrypted and highly secure. The only people that can access this information are the people that have the information to tap into it. That makes it much better than any other way of sharing information. Additionally, they do not keep any logs of what you have done and what information you have received when using it.

Points to Consider

Before deciding on the platform, you are going to want to use, you must first consider the following. First off, you are going to want to consider performance. If you are going to accomplish anything with your SEO, you need to make sure it is fast. They don’t call it the information superhighway for nothing. For this, VPNs are much faster than Proxies. You will just have to decide what you are going to be using it for and which one that best suits your needs. Next is privacy. There are many people that are concerned that the internet is far too invasive these days. With HTTP and SOCK5 you are being tracked every second that you are connected. VPNs, as we said above, do not track your movements. So, if you are looking for privacy, then VPNs is the clear choice. Last, but certainly not least, cost. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. VPNs can cost upwards of $15 a month to use. Whereas, proxies are generally free. So, you are going to have to decide based on those criteria.

Conclusion

When you are dealing with your reputation online, you are going to want to make sure that you do it in such a way that you are protecting your privacy. The clear winner today is VPNs. As we said though, you are going to have to make the decision based on your needs.
