Getting a tattoo and its care is crucial. Choose a beautiful design of a tattoo and be certain if you really want it or not as the tattoo removal procedure will hurt you. Try to prevent your tattoo from infection and other serious complications.

Why Tattoo’s Aftercare matter?

A tattoo is not a piece of art, it is part of your body and you have to prevent it from infection. A tattoo is made on your body with needles. The ink is inserted with the help of pins. If you expose your skin to the environment, it will be harmful. Care for your tattoo and ensure that it is healing properly. In the entire medical procedure of getting a tattoo, you and your artist are involved. Always select a licensed and expert artist. After getting a tattoo on your body, take care of it at home.

Though it’s a tricky task on how to care for your tattoo. Many artists gave aftercare instruction, but if they didn’t, contact a dermatologist. Follow day-by-day care and use the recommended aftercare products.

How to care for your Tattoo?

Tattoo’s aftercare starts right after you get the tattoo. The artist will wrap your wound in plastic paper and apply a petroleum Vaseline on it. This wrapping and bandage will prevent your tattoo from infection and from getting in touch with clothes.

If there is a leakage of ink from the tattoo, keep dressing on it. It will absorb the excess ink easily. After sometime when you feel that your wound is healing remove the bandage. Wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and soap gently.

When your tattoo is healing, remember

  • Whenever you go outside, wear sun-protective clothes.
  • If you feel any sign of infection, contact a dermatologist or a tattoo artist.
  • Don’t use sunblock on your wound until it heals.
  • Don’t wear clothes that rub on the tattoo.
  • Take care of scratches as it will hurt you.
  • Avoid immense water use over the tattoo.

Day-By-Day Aftercare of Tattoo:

The healing of your tattoo depends upon its size and shape. If it is a large and complicated type, it would take some extra time to heal. Here I will describe day-by-day care tips for your tattoo.

Day 1:

After getting your tattoo, you return home with minor pain but bigger joy. You can remove the bandage after some hours. When you remove the bandage, it appears red and sore. The fluid will be oozing out of the wound. Remove the fluid or blood plasma with the help of a dressing. Clean the tattoo with lukewarm water and fragrance-free soap gently.

Day 2 – 3:

The wound is healing and it looks duller. Wash your skin smoothly with warm water and use alcohol moisturizers as the alcohol is antiseptic. When you wash it some extra ink will ooze out and absorb it with a tissue.

Day 4 – 6:

Now the redness of your tattoo will fade out slowly. And a scab appears on the surface that is a symbol of healing. Don’t try to put off the scab. Wash your tattoo twice or thrice in a day and apply moisturizer on it.

Day 6 – 14:

The scab on the tattoo is now hardened and put off naturally. Apply the moisturizer because the skin will be itchy at that time. If your tattoo still appears red and plasma ooze out from it, you might have an infection. Immediately consult a dermatologist.

Day 14 – 30:

It is the last stage of healing, the scab has gone, and your wound is clear now. The skin gets dehydrated after this procedure, keep using moisturizer to moisturize it completely. When the third-week starts, your skin heals completely.

Follow these steps and you will have a bright and shiny tattoo with no subsequent infections.
