What’s So Special About Alaskan Cruises?

You dream of going on a cruise but you want to find an original destination. You have already explored the Mediterranean or the Caribbean, so let me introduce you in this article to one of my favorite destinations: Alaska.

From glacier passages to charming little fishing ports, to the clean air you breathe amidst magnificent landscapes, Alaska is one of the most beautiful destinations you can choose for your cruise! So, we hope that after reading this article you will already imagine yourself “at the last frontier”.

Discover exceptional wildlife

Alaska is a land of North America that is home to many wild animals such as whales, bears, golden eagles for example. Many experienced and uninitiated cruise passengers return delighted from their stay thanks to the wildlife they have observed from the deck of the ship.

Alaskan cruises are focused on beaches, partying or lounging, an Alaska itinerary will focus on discovering wildlife and breathtaking landscapes. So if you love nature and seeing wild animals in their natural habitat, Alaska is the place to go!

Escape to beautiful landscapes

Alaska has more coastline than the 49 other states of the United States of America combined or approximately 54,000 km! Of course, you will not have time to explore them in their entirety during your cruise, but you will already have a good glimpse of the beauty of the landscapes of this “land at the end of the world”.

You will sometimes sail for several hours without seeing a single dwelling… only trees and nature but you will really have the feeling of being immersed in the heart of a distant land.

Admire famous glaciers and rocky mountains

The essential element of your trip will of course be the sight of the glaciers. Anyone who has ever had the chance to experience the passenger of a glacier will tell you with shining eyes! The silence that reigns sometimes broken by the sound of the cracking ice, everyone holding their breath in front of this magnificent spectacle… undoubtedly a key moment of your trip.

If you like mountains and rocky peaks, you can discover in Alaska 17 of the largest mountain peaks in the United States, the highest culminating at 6,190 meters above sea level, the ancient Mount McKinley now called “Denali”.

Venture off the beaten track

If you take the time to study all available itineraries in Alaska, you may find Alaskan cruises including stopovers in small, rarely-visited ports such as Haines or Sitka. These places are not very frequented by tourists which adds an additional charm. For example, have fun visiting the Hammerhead Museum in Haines or practicing halibut fishing in Sitka.

Unusual experiences that will enhance your trip, that’s for sure! Another originality, if you have the chance to visit the port of Juneau, know that it is not easily accessible by road, so savor your privilege of accessing it by sea.

Temperatures are not as icy as you might think

When we think of Alaska, we necessarily think of very cold temperatures, synonymous with down jackets, hats, and scarves… Think again, this destination is not as harsh as you might imagine during certain months of the year! Therefore, favor the months of June, July, and August where temperatures generally vary between 5 ° C for cool nights up to 25 ° C for beautiful sunny days.
