Any person who is diagnosed with diabetes knows that one of the most important things in his or her life is controlling the blood sugar levels. The more your sugar levels are down the higher your chances of staying healthy.

Diabetes lowers the levels of the good cholesterol HDL and increases the levels of LDL cholesterol normally known as the bad cholesterol so it is like diabetes and high cholesterol go hand in hand. High cholesterol in the body leads to other serious conditions like heart diseases and stroke so it is very important to try and lower the cholesterol in any way that we can.

Fortunately, a change in diet can help lower the levels of high cholesterol and help you stay healthy if you are diabetic. Before we get to the foods that you should avoid, I would like to say that there is a change in the health insurance 2020 and it is important you know about the same. Check out these foods that you should avoid if you are diabetic and have a high level of cholesterol.

  • Any beverage that is sugar-sweetened

We love sugary things thinking that they are sweet but if you are diabetic this are things that you should definitely avoid. They have high levels of carbs and more carbs more cholesterol in the body though I don’t mean you avoid carbs altogether because they still have their role to play. Just get carbs from whole grains and fresh fruits instead of sweetened beverages like soda. And by the way, sweetened beverages also contain high amounts of fructose which is linked with insulin resistance leading to storage of fats in the body.

  • White bread

Some people believe that breakfast will not be complete if you have not taken the bread and a cup of tea but if you are diabetic you need to avoid white bread as much as possible. White bread has low amounts of fiber and it contains high amounts of carbs. The low amounts of fiber slow down the absorption of fiber into your bloodstreams.

  • A flavored cup of coffee

Coffee is an elegant drink one that we really love and one that some people cannot perform without it just for a day. As a matter of fact, coffee is among the few things that people who are diabetic are recommended to take daily. But as for the flavored coffee, its story is a little different as it is loaded with carbs and if you take high amounts of it will lead to cholesterol formation because no matter how many cups of flavored coffee you take, you will still need to eat. Just avoid the flavored coffee and go for the plain coffee.

  • Dried fruits

Dried fruits have become very common nowadays since they are easier to store and the good thing is that they are still very sweet. Unfortunately, the dried fruits have high amounts of sugars something you need to avoid if you are diabetic. Just go for the fresh fruits.
