Being a Woman is Complicated

The anatomy of men and women differs greatly and I believe that not many men are well informed and educated about menstruation and the whole process it entails. Women should start having open and honest conversation on this topic and explain menstruation to boys. What’s more when boys approach women with questions they should not be ashamed to respond to them and should be willing to give them even more information.

Being a woman is really complicated and sharing the whole story with anyone should not be an uncomfortable and weird experience at all. If you are a woman and you have a uterus, you will be spending at least 40 years menstruating. This is a normal bodily function and it’s just as normal as going to the bathroom to do #1 and #2. It affects half of the world’s population and I don’t really see where the discomfort of talking about periods comes from!

What do men think about periods?

They are so grateful that they don’t have to deal with them and definitely think that they should keep away from women when they are on their periods due to their mood swings and hormone changes.

What’s a menstruation in fact and how long does it last?

So men, let’s get this clear. Every month each uterus develops a lining which is supposed to nurture a fertilized egg. The egg should get attached to the lining in order to be well protected and developed. But if a pregnancy doesn’t occur during this cycle, menstruation occurs. The lining gets shed along with other dissolved parts of the egg, nutrients and blood and this is how bleeding occurs.

Every woman is different and thus each cycle is different. A normal cycle usually occurs every 21 to 35 days and lasts for about 2-7 days.

Women should stop thinking that periods are gross, dirty and shameful!

How many times have you caught yourselves whispering to another woman that you need a tampon or a pad? I know that women have a long history of embarrassment to forget, but they can do it! Women are complicated because they make things even more complex with their own behaviour. They should be aware that menstruation is completely normal and nothing out of the ordinary.

What should men do to support women’s menstrual health?

As the word menstruation is composed of the word men, they should all get involved and stand alongside women during this time of the month. They can help any female member of the family if they are experiencing painful and heavy menstrual cycles and should definitely influence the attitudes of others when it comes to periods. Another thing that they can do is to ensure that all organizations are providing an easy and dignified way for women to deal with menstruation at work and improve their menstrual hygiene and health.

This is not true, since it’s about the word mens which means month, but however, this isn’t a bad idea at all, right?

To sum up

Being transparent with brothers, fathers, husbands, male friends and coworkers about menstruation will make it easier for everyone to understand why women are complicated. As soon as both men and women start talking openly about periods the understanding of them will be normalized.
