How to Choose the Right Trunk Line for Your Long Draw Draft Beer System?

Glycol draft beer system is currently the most popular solution among other beer chilling setups. This king of beer dispensing system is commonly used in all kinds of bars, restaurants, pubs, and so on. Such a system is necessary for keeping the beer at the right cool temperature while it is being drawn from cooler to the tower. This is also essential to prevent the buildup of foam along the way. It is important to choose the right glycol trunk line to fit your draft beer system.

Selecting the Glycol Trunk Line for Your System

Glycol chillers are usually used in beer draft systems because of their efficiency. An integral part of a glycol beer system is a trunk line. This trunk line includes multiple tubes, which transport either beer or glycol. Thanks to glycol running along with the beer in adjacent tubes, the beer remains cold and does not build up foam. There are two criteria that you have to consider while selecting the trunk line:

  • The number of products you want to dispense
  • The length of beer lines

Based on the number of beer types you want to dispense, you can choose a smaller or bigger trunk line:

  • With two glycol lines – for two to eight products
  • With four glycol lines – for ten to sixteen products

Based on the length of your beer lines, it is necessary to choose the diameter of glycol lines. Shorter lines are usually served by 1/4″ inch trunk lines. While longer beer lines could use either 3/8″ or 5/16″ inch trunk lines.

There are various glycol trunk lines with specific dimensions to suit different beer cooling systems. You should take into account the specifics of your own setup to choose the most efficient trunk line.
