Typically, the key components of a radiology information system consist of a database and a RIS front-end application. X-ray machines capture tests and X-ray data and store them in the database. The front-end RIS application facilitates access and modification of these data. A RIS typically provides: patient registration and management, radiology workflow management, image and document creation, editing and management, billing and reporting. Advanced features have been classified as not being commonly available from commercial SIR vendors.
